CANTON, Ga. -- Canton Police officers arrested a man after a brief SWAT situation at a home in a Canton subdivision.
Officers located 17-year-old Damien Fowler in the near area of the home in the Hillcrest Subdivision, while SWAT carried out a precautionary search of the residence, reported Officer Pacey Cordry.
Fowler was taken to the Cherokee Adult Detention Center, and will face an obstruction charge.
Earlier Tuesday afternoon, officers were called to an area near the Laurels of Greenwood Apartments around 4:15, where a caller said a black male was brandishing a gun near a tree line.
When officers arrived, the suspect ran into nearby woods, Cordry said.
Soon after, officers received information that a possible suspect had barricaded himself inside a home in the Hillcrest Subdivision.
Cordry said at that time, officers had established a perimeter around the home and were preparing for SWAT. They searched surrounding woods while Cherokee County K-9 units and deputies helped out.
Cordry described as a black male with red hair, around 20 - 25 years old. He may have been armed with a handgun and wearing a red shirt.
SWAT cleared the Hillcrest subdivision home, and officers believe no other suspects are involved.
