HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- Henry County firefighters responded to a house fire around 10:00 Tuesday morning, to find the home taken over by heavy flames.
The home, located near the area where Highway 155 North meets Camp Creek Drive, was engulfed by flames that could be seen from a distance, Capt. Sabrina Puckett reported.
When they first arrived, crews saw that heavy smoke was coming from the one-story home's basement, and spread to the backside of the house.
"Initially," Puckett said, "fire ground operations were somewhat challenged by an extensive hose lay of nearly 1000 feet of five inch large diameter hose in effort to obtain a water supply."
Firefighters entered attacked the fire from inside, trying to save the home, but crews were shortly forced back out due to heat and the potential for the house to collapse. By that time, the home was severely damaged by the fire.
On Tuesday afternoon, Highway 155 North was temporarily shut down between Camp Creek Road and Roseberry Drive, but was expected to be reopened around 2:30, Puckett said.
Fire investigators of Henry County are working to learn the origin and cause of the fire.
No injuries were reported.
