Celebrity Chef G Garvin opens his new Restaurant "Low Country: New Southern Cuisine" at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport.
Celebrity Chef G Garvin opened his new restaurant at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport Today.
COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- Celebrity Chef G. Garvin is known for putting a hometown spin on many of his signature dishes, his Coca-Cola BBQ wings for example. And now he's showing the world via the world's busiest airport, that Southern Cuisine can also be healthy.
"Low Country is a new Southern. So it's a healthy version of Southern food. Catfish is baked, Tilapia is baked, Roasted Chicken Breast. Everything is made from scratch and we've got seven different vegetables - broccoli, carrots, it's all there," G. Garvin said while opening his new restaurant today.
But don't worry they'll still have mac-and-cheese. And while airports are usually stacked with lots of fast food choices opening a restaurant at the Atlanta airport has been a goal of his since he was 13.
"I've grown up flying through this airport. Eating in this airport. It's always been a goal of mine. I didn't know how to do it, but I always thought some day it could happen," Garvin said.
The idea is also something the airport has been working hard to land.
Hartsfield-Jackson General Manager Louis Miller has worked to bring Atlanta specific retailers into the airport. He says, this restaurant fits that bill perfectly. "When you arrive at Hartsfield-Jackson to know your in Atlanta to know your in Georgia -- concepts like this really help out," Miller said.
And it doesn't hurt that his new restaurant is located right in the middle of Terminal A which is one of the busiest terminals in the world.
"This is a damn good location. Listen, anyone who tells you they're successful and they don't use the word luck. They're just not being honest." Garvin said.
