GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Three people were killed and five more were injured in a five-vehicle wreck in Hall County Friday morning.
11Alive's John Gerard learned that of those five injured, all are in serious to critical condition. Two of those victims are children.
The accident happened at around 12:45 a.m. on Highway 365 North at Howard Road in Gainesville.
Gainesville Police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said the wreck involved a tractor trailer, two SUVs, a pickup truck and a sedan.
The tractor trailer of the local Gainesville company Fieldale Farms caught fire and leaked fuel and oil onto the road, Holbrook said.
Holbrook believes one of the vehicles involved, a Ford F-150, was travelling southbound on Highway 365. The tractor trailer collided with the Ford pickup and pushed it around 300 to 500 feet.
Two passengers in the pickup are among those killed, Holbrook confirmed.
The injured were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
None of the victims' names were immediately available.
Investigators expect the intersection to be closed for hours Friday morning.
