(WXIA) -- If you had to guess one food that is "perfect," what would it be?
How about the avocado? Move over, apple. A new study in "Nutrition Journal" found three reasons why the avocado is the perfect food.
Avocados may be high in fat, but the study found that people who eat them regularly are thinner than those who do not. Avocado lovers weigh an average of seven-and-a-half pounds less and have a thinner waistline too.
The same study found that avocado eaters have a lower risk for metabolic syndrome. It's a dangerous cluster of abnormalities that lead to Type 2 diabetes or heart attacks.
Foods like avocados that are high in carotenoids may slow down skin aging. They protect against damage from UV rays and protect against sunburn.
