WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Sheriff's officials in eastern Georgia say a train has derailed after being hit by a tractor-trailer south of Augusta.
Richmond County Sheriff's Lt. Ramone Lamkin said a train was crossing when a truck driver jumped from the vehicle before it hit the train Tuesday afternoon. It wasn't immediately clear if the trucker didn't see the train, or if the brakes on the truck failed.
Officials say several train cars that were carrying logs at the time derailed and a vehicle on the other side of the tracks was hit by a train car and overturned.
Lamkin says no serious injuries were reported.
The road near the derailment is expected to be closed for two days while crews remove debris and repair the rails.
