COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Two people are dead as a result of a multiple vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer that happened on Interstate 75 near Wade Green Road on Thursday afternoon.
According to Marietta Police, the eight-vehicle accident began when a tractor trailer rear-ended a car. Authorities say the accident may have been caused as a result of nearby roadwork.

The tractor-trailer rear-ended a BMW, which burst into flames. The BMW driver was killed; Cobb County Police Officer Mike Bowman said the victim has been identified, but police are waiting for dental records to officially confirm the identity.
Another person, 71-year-old Barbara Phenicie of Peachtree City, was rushed to WellStar Kennestone Hospital after the accident. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Phenicie's husband, 72-year-old Dale Phenicie, and their son, 38-year-old Jonathan Phenicie of Cumming, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Kennestone.
The tractor-trailer driver, 40-year-old Vahid Husic of Lawrenceville, was also treated at WellStar Kennestone Hospital.
The fiery accident temporarily caused all lanes of the highway to be closed just ahead of rush hour traffic.
The accident led to backups throughout the area and northbound traffic that stretched back to Barrett Parkway. Northbound traffic was advised to exit the interstate at either Barrett Parkway or Highway 5, and to take US 41 north to Highway 92 before re-entering I-75.
Bowman said the wreck is still under investigation.
