ATLANTA (AP) -- School officials are investigating why an 8-year-old boy poked an 8-year-old girl with a pencil as they were riding the bus home from school.
Fulton County Schools spokeswoman Susan Hale says the boy "poked" the girl in the naval with the pencil on Tuesday. No skin was penetrated.
"The girl's mom took her to the hospital to see if the pencil interfered with a previous medical condition related to the stomach area," Hale said, adding the child was not taken by ambulance as previously reported.
The girl attended school Wednesday. Both children attend High Point Elementary. Officials have not released their names.
Authorities are reviewing the bus videotape to determine the motivation of the incident. They met Wednesday with the boy's mother who kept him home from school. He may face disciplinary action by the school.
