Disco Kroger Reopens As Gourmet Food's Haven

ATLANTA (AP) -- An Atlanta grocery store known as "DiscoKroger" is reopening after a $5.5 million transformation into an gourmet foodie's paradise.

The Kroger in Atlanta's tony Buckhead neighborhood is becoming one of the chain's "Fresh Fare" locales with $1,000temperature-controlled wines, fresh organic treats and chef-maentrees. The new store is scheduled to open Sunday.

It's the fifth "Fresh Fare" Kroger in the country and thefirst in Georgia as the Ohio-based chain tries to compete withstores like Whole Foods and Fresh Market.

Despite the overhaul, the store's silver disco ball will stillhang at the front entrance. It got the nickname in the 1908s because it shared a shopping center with the Limelight disco in the city's popular clubbing district.
