
NEWTON COUNTY --- Newton County authorities placed two schools on lockdown Tuesday as a precaution as they search for a robbery suspect from Conyers.
The schools are Fairview Elementary School and Clements Middle School in Newton County.
Newton County authorities tell 11Alive the situation began with an armed robbery in Rockdale County Tuesday morning.
The victim of the robbery later spotted the suspect vehincle at a business off of Porterdale Road in Covington. Newton County deputies responded to the victim's 9-1-1 call, and took 2 of the 3 suspects into custody. They apparently used a police K-9 dog to track the suspects.
Authorities are using dogs and a police helicopter to search for the 3rd suspect in a wooded area near the schools.
Authorities placed the schools under the lockdown as a precaution. School resource officers have been alerted about the search.
