COBB COUNTY, GA- A longtime crossing guard is being held without bond charged with child molestation.

62-year-old Jerry Cox of Marietta is facing 3 counts of aggravated child molestation, one count of aggravated sexual battery and one count of child molestation.

Police say the victim is a 12-year-old girl who's family has known Cox for years. The abuse allegedly took place at the victim's home more than once over the past month.

Cox has served as a crossing guard for 24 years. He was assigned to escort students at three schools- Tritt Elementary, Hightower Trail Middle School and Walton High School.

Cobb County police hired him.

"By no means was he a sworn offficer. He was just responsible for children at the crosswalks at schools," said department spokesman Officer Joe Hernandez.

Police say before Cox was hired they did perform a background check, but didn't find anything that raised any concerns.

They have fired Cox.

Hernandez said investigators are now looking into whether there are any other potential victims who have yet to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crimes Against Children Unit at 770-801-3470.
