Rains Hit Gulf Coast Ahead Of Tropical Storm

GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) -- Tropical Storm Ida is losing more steam as it crawls toward the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Ida, which is packing near-50-mph winds, is expected to make
landfall early Tuesday before turning east. Tropical storm warnings are out across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, where governors have declared states of emergency.

In Alabama's Gulf Shores, some streets are flooded and the
city's under a 10 p.m. curfew.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says rain will move well
inland before the storm comes ashore. Some spots could get up to 8 inches of rain, with most of the coast getting between 3 and 6.

There are no mandatory evacuations, but authorities in coastal
areas are encouraging people near the water or in mobile homes to seek shelter.
