ATLANTA - Early Thursday, a vehicle being pursued by a Cobb County police officer, left the roadway and slammed into a tree on Paces Ferry Road, killing the driver.

The crash, in the city of Atlanta, also injured the passenger. He was taken to Grady Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The police chase began in the Vinings area when the Cobb officer spotted a Ford Contour matching the description of a stolen car wanted in connection with a number of thefts. When the officer attempted to stop the car, it sped away and later crashed.

A Cobb Police spokesman said both men in the Contour were in their late teens or early twenties. Their names were not released.
