Metro Flooding Tied To Nationwide Eggo Waffle Shortage

ATLANTA -- The shortage of a popular breakfast fare is due, in part, to Metro Atlanta's record flooding.

Shoppers had no idea their grocery carts could bring them to the intersection of waffles, and weather. In the frozen food aisle, some are getting the cold shoulder.

There's no waffling on this one, the entire nation is experience an insufficiency of Eggos.

"There's two or three varieties I usually choose from," says shopper Dave Simpkins. "They're not available today."

There are places where your Eggo hunger will go completely unfulfilled.

"A couple of days ago, I was at Publix right next door and a lady there was asking about Eggos," says shopper Lindsay Logan. "They hadn't had them for over a week."

Flooding from the Chattahoochee River stopped temporally stopped production at the Kellogg plant in S.W. Atlanta, one of the plants where Eggos are made. Combine that with non-flooding related equipment problems at the largest Eggo waffle bakery in Tennessee, and you've cooked up a nationwide shortage.

In a statement, Kellogg vows the company is working around the clock to stock your grocery store shelves at normal levels, but admits the shortage could last well into next year.

It's left many with a deflated Eggo.

"I never connected floods and waffles before but, I guess floods effect a lot of things you don't think about," says shopper Barbara Gagliardo.

It even affects some things that are between you, and your toaster.
