It's been a controversial story all week: a government panel saying most women don't need mammograms in their 40's.
One member of that U.S. task force is from Georgia. Dr. Lucy Marion is the dean of nursing at Augusta's Medical College of Georgia; she spoke Wednesday with 11Alive's Matt Pearl.
The task force recommended the following:
- women aged 50-74 should get mammograms once every other year, not every year
- women of all ages shouldn't do regular self exams
- low-risk patients in their 40's don't need annual mammograms, but they should talk with their doctors about how often to have one
