ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan will not return for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after suffering a right big toe injury.

The team announced after halftime Ryan would not return.

Ryan left after the team's first offensive series. He showed no sign of the injury while in the game, but was limping when escorted to the locker room. He was back on the sideline at the end of the half.

Ryan received attention from trainers on the sideline and tested the foot before backup Chris Redman entered the game on the team's second possession. Redman had his first pass attempts since 2007.
