ATLANTA (AP) -- A resolution honoring entertainment mogul Tyler Perry, scheduled to be proclaimed on Wednesday by the Georgia Senate, has been postponed.

A state senator's office told 11Alive that Perry cancelled his appearance after he heard news stories previewing his Capitol visit and feared a "media frenzy."

The Senate plans to honor Perry for his achievements as an entertainer and humanitarian. The 40-year-old New Orleans native and Atlanta resident would be the first celebrity to be honored in the chamber this session.

Sens. Donzella James, Vincent Fort, Nan Orrock, Robert Brown and Gloria Butler plan to present Senate Resolution 1188 to Perry, citing his silver-haired, sharp-tongued "Madea" character, Tyler Perry Studios -- the first independent movie studio of its size in the state -- and donations to area food banks and various charities.
