LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- A Gwinnett County judge has sentenced a former Duluth police officer accused of shooting another officer and attacking a woman to 60 years in prison. Superior Court Judge Dawson Jackson gave Jay Dailey twice the prison term he was offered in a plea deal before trial Tuesday. Dailey's attorney, Jeff Sliz, says he plans to appeal. Authorities had alleged that Dailey was drunk in 2008 when he opened fire on an off-duty Fulton County police officer. Fulton County officer Paul Phillips fired only four rounds in the exchange. The bizarre incident began when authorities alleged Dailey flagged down a female motorist, faked an injury and then sprayed the woman with pepper spray when she tried to call 911. They claimed he later threatened to kill her and told her she was ruining his life. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
