ATLANTA -- At $12 a day, parking in Atlanta is a bargain compared with most large U.S. cities, according to a new study.
The study conducted by Colliers International is titled "Parking Not Getting Any Cheaper - And Unlikely to Do So." It found the U.S. average for daily parking is now $15.42.
Parking in New York City's Midtown area is the most expensive in the country at $40 a day, followed by Honolulu at $32.75 a day and Boston at $32 a day.
Atlanta's monthly and hourly rates are also cheaper than average. Atlanta's monthly unreserved parking rate averages $90, compared with a national median of $152.26. The city's hourly rate is an average of $4, compared with the national average of $5.10.
According to Colliers' 10 annual North America Parking Rate Survey, 5 percent of Atlanta's parking garages have waiting lists, below the national average of 11.6 percent, and the city's parking availability is called "fair."
