Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker struck in head by line drive, leaves game

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker left Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners in the second inning after he was struck on the side of the head by a line drive.

The Angels announced that Shoemaker suffered a laceration and was alert when he was taken to a Seattle hospital for a CT scan.

Shoemaker's pitch left the bat of Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager at 105 mph, according to Statcast.

Shoemaker immediately fell to his knees and was looked at by the training staff for a few minutes before walking off the field with a towel pressed against his head. He was replaced by Deolis Guerra.

Shoemaker, 29, has a 3.91 ERA and a 9-13 record in 26 starts this season, his third with the Angels.
