Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy underwent successful surgery to repair the partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow Thursday.

He will be out at least a year.

The procedure, commonly known as Tommy John surgery, was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Gulf Breeze, Florida.

Beachy left Saturday's game against the Orioles after 3 2/3 innings because of discomfort in the elbow. He was 5-5 with a major league-best 2.00 earned run average and had allowed 49 hits in 81 innings in his second major league season.
