LONDON -- Andrew Gemmell, the 21-year old swimmer from the University of Georgia, was stopped short of a spot in the final of the men's 1,500-meter freestyle at the Aquatics Centre in London's Olympic Park on Friday.

Gemmell finished third in his heat, with a time of 14 minutes, 59.05 seconds, but it wasn't enough to put him through.
The top eight swimmers from two qualifying heats move into Saturday's final. Gemmell, who is competing in his first Olympics, had the ninth-fastest time.

The qualifying heats will air on 11Alive between 10:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Friday.
