The Martin Luther King Jr. Lions stopped the Tucker Tigers on a fourth and seven play with 4:37 to play in the game on the way to a 24-17 win to capture the Region 6-AAAAA title.

The No. 2 ranked Lions remain undefeated at 9-0 overall and 8-0 in region play while the No. 5 ranked Tigers fell to 7-2 overall and 6-2 in the region.

Monquavious Johnson had three touchdown passes as the Lions built a 24-10 lead with 3:18 to play in the third quarter. He connected with Marquis Polite-Bray for 42 yards in the second quarter and on a four-yard pass with 8:06 to play in the third. The third one for the 14 point lead came on a 43 yard pass and catch to Romello Shumake.

The Tigers answered on their next drive driving to the King 25 where Williams was pressured and stepped up to find Rivers in the middle of the field where he turned, broke a tackle at the six yard line and got into the end zone to cut the lead in half.

The Tigers were driving at their 46 and faced with a fourth and 7 when Williams was again flushed from the pocket, but unable to find a receiver was forced to run and was stopped two yards short of the first down.

The Lions took over with 4:37 to play and were able to run out the clock to seal the region championship.

The Tigers need a victory over Mays to seal at least a No. 3 seed for the state playoffs.
