SUWANEE, Ga. -- Lexie Brown of North Gwinnett High School learned Thursday morning that she was named Gatorade State Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

Brown led her Bulldogs basketball club to the Class AAAAAA state championship game. Her team finished 30-2 on the season.

In the state title game against Norcross, Brown scored 20 points, made five assists and two steals. Norcross took the Championship, as the Bulldogs fell 63-42.

The senior was named a selection for the McDonald's High School All-American Game and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American Game.

Brown played on the USA Basketball Women's U18 National Team. During that time in 2012, she averaged 5.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, three assists and 2.8 steals per game. Brown helped Team USA run toward a gold medal in the 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championship.

Brown also left her mark in the classroom by maintaining a 3.99 GPA. During her time away from school, she stayed on the court to coach a fifth grade Amateur Athletic Union basketball team. The athlete also co-founded a mentorship program for her younger teammates.

As a volunteer, Brown helped out at the Taste of Suwanee and on behalf of the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

The head coach of North Gwinnett rival Mountain View, Jackie Lindquist spoke well of Brown's attitude.

"She as the ability to make everyone around her better while still doing the things necessary to help her team," Lindquist said. "She carries herself like a winner and is always respectful of her opponent. She plays the game with class."

For college, Brown will attend Maryland.
