Redan, Arabia Mountain top Week Four action with big wins

Redan and Arabia Mountain led the way among four local squads that posted undefeated records last week.

Redan posted a pair of impressive triumphs, knocking off Stephenson (13-2) March 12 and Lakeside (7-3) March 13 on the road to improve to 4-3 overall after beginning the season 0-3.

Junior Corderius Dorsey tossed a no-hitter over three innings in Redan's 13-2 triumph over Stephenson March 12, striking out six and walking four.

Sophomore James Nelson paced an 11-hit Raider offensive in the contest, striking two homers and driving in four runs. Senior Tyler Layton also added a homer and two RBI in the contest. Senior Brandon Baker struck out 12 and allowed just two hits over seven innings in Redan's 7-3 victory over Lakeside March 13. Senior Wesley Jones collected three hits to lead the offense

Coach Eric Hoxie's Arabia Mountain Rams continued their strong early start to the season, rolling past Heritage (17-6) March 11 and Mundy's Mill (10-0) March 14 to improve to 7-1 overall.

Coach Chan English's Dunwoody Wildcats prevailed in a 10-9 thriller over Pope March 16 to move to 6-1 for the year. Trailing 8-1 in the bottom of the sixth and 9-5 in the seventh, Dunwoody erupted for four and five runs in the last two frames to pull out a thrilling 10-9 decision over Pope March 16. Senior Harry Andros finished 2-2 with a walk and senior Eric Yost and junior Andre Keith delivered two RBI each to lead the comeback.
Senior Dar'Kwan Brown (2-2; 5 RBI; 3 RS) and junior Malique Ivery (2-2; 2 RS; 2 RBI) paced Martin Luther King Jr.'s offense in a 20-2 win over McNair March 16.

Coach Steve Dennis and the Columbia Eagles, meanwhile, registered a stellar 3-0-1 showing, bouncing back from a 3-3 draw with Westlake March
12 to best Stephenson (12-5) March 13, Banneker (15-0) March 15 and Mays (8-6) 8-6) March 16 to move to 6-1-2 overall. Martin Luther King Jr. and Southwest DeKalb also posted winning records of 2-1 in action from last

Clarkston registered an 11-1 triumph over Cross Keys March 14, as senior Charles Bennett hurled a no-hitter with seven strikeouts over five innings. Senior LeMarcus Mattox (3-4; 2 RS), senior Jeremy Wimberly (2-3; 4 RS), Bennett (2-3) and sophomore Noah Harrell (2-3; 1 RS) posted strong outings at the plate for the Angoras in the game.

Lakeside's Bill Newsome joined the 200 career victory club on March 8.  Newsome's Vikings, 5-3 overall, knocked off Chamblee 17-5 for his 200th career victory. He is 202-227 overall.
