Double gold medal winner Gabby Douglas inspires kids at Atlanta Gymnastics Center
DECATUR, Ga. - - When a double gold medal winner speaks, even high energy level young gymnasts sit still and listen. That was the scene at the Atlanta Gymanstics Center in Decatur.
All around individual gold medalist and member of America's winning team in London, Gabby Douglas spoke to kids and signed her book during an hour and a half visit. She doesn't do very many of these, but center owner Chris Calvert has done lots of work in conjunction with USA Gymnastics, and said "the stars aligned just right" for Douglas' appearance.
Douglas told 11 Alive "it seems like the Olympics was a year ago", as her post London schedule has been very hectic. She flew to Los Angeles the morning after her Decatur stop for an appearance on a national TV show.
She doesn't turn 18, until new year's eve, but handled questions from the kids with the grace of someone who is used to the spotlight. "Give 100 percent, but have fun" was one of her main points of emphasis.
