Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Matt Wieters' RBI double in the eighth inning
lifted the Baltimore Orioles over the Kansas City Royals, 4-3, in the opener
of a three-game series.
Wieters ended with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in for the Orioles,
who have won three in a row. Adam Jones had an RBI and two runs scored.
Baltimore starter Wei-Yin Chen allowed two runs on nine hits over 6 1/3
innings. Tommy Hunter (2-1) tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to pick
up the win.
Alex Gordon hit a two-run homer for the Royals, who have dropped two straight
since winning four in a row. Alcides Escobar added an RBI.
Ervin Santana got the start for Kansas City and gave up three runs on seven
hits over six innings. Tim Collins (1-1) allowed one unearned run over 1 1/3
innings of relief to take the loss.
