Red Elephant QB Deshaun Watson reacts to recruiting service #1 ranking.
GAINESVILLE, Ga. - - Ranking high school football players is an extremely inexact undertaking. But having the talent to even be considered the top of a national talent pool is pretty impressive.
Gainesville quarterback Deshaun Watson has been tagged as the top QB prospect in the nation by some of those who do such rankings. "I don't look at it as I'm the number one quarterback, I just try to get better every day" Watson told 11 Alive news.
His days this summer will certainly be full. He'll be at home part of the time, work out with his teammates and also work a summer job. But there are also trips to Chicago and Oregon for football camps, plus some local camps.
Coach Bruce Miller says he and others at Gainesville don't see a football star walking down the hallway at school, just a good student who happens to be very talented. "He just seems to handle it a lot better than a lot of kids probably would."
Watson will be entering his fourth year as the starter for the Red Elephants, then plans to enroll this January at Clemson. But first things first, as he and his teammates want to get another state title like the one Gainesville captured in December at the Georgia Dome.
Others keep recruiting him but thus far he has not wavered from his verbal promise to the Tigers. He does admit Georgia and Ohio State were both just behind Clemson in his evaluations.
