Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Andy Pettitte will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks after the New York Yankees placed the veteran hurler on the 15- day disabled list prior to Friday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The move comes one day after the 40-year-old was removed from a start against the Seattle Mariners with two outs in the top of the fifth inning due to a strained trapezius muscle in his left arm.

Pettitte, who is one victory shy of 250 for his career, has gone 4-3 with a 3.83 earned run average in eight starts this season. He was saddled with the loss in Thursday's 3-2 setback to the Mariners after allowing a pair of runs prior to his exit.

The three-time All-Star and five-time World Series champion made just 12 starts for the Yankees last season, missing nearly two months with a fractured ankle after returning to the team following a one-year retirement.

New York recalled pitcher Vidal Nuno from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre to fill the roster spot, with the rookie a candidate expected to take Pettitte's place in the rotation as well. The 25-year-old spun five shutout innings to defeat Cleveland in his first major league start on Monday, then was sent back to the minors following the game.
