Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Donnie Murphy's three-run homer in the
ninth inning lifted the Chicago Cubs to a 5-2 win over the Philadelphia
Phillies on Wednesday.
With two on and two out in the ninth, Murphy clubbed a homer deep of
Justin De Fratus to deep left field, capping a 3-for-3, four-RBI performance
which also included an early solo homer. Junior Lake had two hits and an RBI
for the Cubs, who snapped a five-game losing skid.
Pedro Strop (2-1) tossed a scoreless eighth to get the win and Kevin Gregg
spun a perfect ninth frame to nail down his 23rd save of the season.
Luis Garcia (0-1) was charged with the loss after putting two runners on in
the ninth inning,
Starter Cole Hamels gave up just two runs on six hits without issuing a walk
over seven innings. Over his last seven starts, Hamels is just 2-2 despite
posting 2.16 earned run average.
