San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - San Diego Padres pitcher Cory Luebke will sit out a second consecutive season after a recent MRI determined he will require another surgery to repair a ligament tear in his left elbow.

Luebke missed all of the 2013 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery performed in May of the previous year. The once-promising southpaw began experiencing pain once again in his throwing elbow during the fall, and an MRI taken this past Friday revealed another tear of the ulnar collateral ligament.

The Padres signed Luebke to a three-year extension after he put together a solid first full season in the majors in 2011, posting a 3.29 earned run average over 17 starts and 29 additional appearances in relief. The 28-year- old was off to a very good start the following season, going 3-1 with a 2.61 ERA in five starts, prior to undergoing his first Tommy John procedure.

Luebke, who is signed through 2015 and has club options on his contract in each of the following two years, had been expected to be part of San Diego's rotation this upcoming season.
