ATLANTA -- The Braves have released Ryan Howard from his minor league contract, the team announced on Monday.
Howard was recently assigned to the Triple-A Gwinnett Braves with the hopes of him working his way up to the majors as someone who could come off the bench and pinch hit for Atlanta.
Apparently, that plan was scratched.
In 11 games with the G-Braves, Howard was hitting .184 with one home run and five RBIs.
Howard played his entire career with the Philadelphia Phillies up until this year. He made his MLB debut in 2004. He was a three-time All-Star and the NL MVP in 2006.
