Tempe, AZ (Sports Network) - Taylor Kelly completed 19-of-26 passes for a
career-high 326 yards and three touchdowns to push the Arizona State Sun Devils
to a 37-7 victory over the Utah Utes in Pac-12 Conference action at Sun Devil
Stadium.
Rashad Ross tallied 87 yards and a touchdown on five catches for Arizona State
(3-1, 1-0 Pac-12) as it bounced back from last week's loss to Missouri. D.J.
Foster gained 70 yards on 10 carries while Jamal Miles produced 104 all-purpose
yards in the winning effort.
Utah (2-2, 0-1) struggled offensively throughout the game. Jon Hays completed
10-of-15 passes for 117 yards with a touchdown and interception, Kelvin York
rushed the ball 13 times for 86 yards, and Karl Williams caught five passes for
49 yards and the team's only score. The road loss was the second in as many
games away from home for the Utes.
The Sun Devils began their domination in the first quarter, just over four
minutes after kickoff, as Kelly completed a 38-yard strike to Ross for a
score. Cameron Marshall added onto the lead with seven minutes remaining by
plunging into the end zone on a one-yard run to punctuate a seven-play, 59-yard
drive. After ASU recovered a fumble, Kelly connected with Marion Grice for a
10-yard touchdown pass which put the Sun Devils up 21-0 in the opening period.
Utah ended the run with 13:29 left to play in the first half by producing an
11-play, 91-yard scoring drive which was finished off by a two-yard pass from
Hays to Williams.
The Sun Devils answered with an 88-yard drive of their own, but Utah's defense
kept ASU out of the end zone and Alex Garoutte added three with a 22-yard chip
shot.
ASU's offense scored seven more points with just five minutes left before the
half when Kelly found Marshall for a 13-yard touchdown pass. Marshall's second
trip to the end zone of the day gave the Sun Devils a 31-7 lead at the
intermission.
The Sun Devils managed to generate six points after halftime as Garoutte made a
field goal in each of the final two quarters while Utah was held scoreless.
ASU gained 512 yards of total offense and limited the Utes to just 209 in the
