Kent, OH (Sports Network) - Bruiser Flint will stay at 199 wins as coach of
the Drexel Dragons as they fell short to the Kent State Golden Flashes, 66-62,
in overtime at the M.A.C. Center in the season opener.
Chris Evans came up big when it mattered for Kent State (1-0) as he scored 21
points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field and grabbing a team-high nine
rebounds. Randal Holt scored 17 points and Bryson Pope added 10 off the bench
in the victory.
For the Dragons (0-1), Chris Fouch put forth a valiant effort as he tallied a
game-high 24 points as he knocked down 6-of-12 behind the three-point line.
Both Damion Lee and Kazembe Abif added eight points each, the latter pulling
down eight rebounds.
In the first half Drexel outscored Kent State 25-23 with both teams shooting
under 36 percent from the field.
In the second half Kent State forced the game into overtime by outscoring
Drexel in the second 32-30. With 31 seconds left in regulation Evans hit a
jumper to tie the game at 55-55.
In the final minute of overtime, Evans made two free throws and then blocked a
Dartaye Ruffin layup attempt. Holt was able to make four straight free throws
as the Golden Flashes held on for a thrilling win.
