Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Isaiah Sykes nearly had a triple-double to lead
the UCF Knights to an easy 74-56 victory over the South Florida Bulls in the
season opener at the Sun Dome.
Sykes scored 26 points, brought down 11 rebounds and dished out eight assists
for UCF (1-0). Keith Clanton had a double-double of his own with 16 points to
match 16 rebounds. Tristan Spurlock added 14 points and Kasey Wilson chipped
in 13.
Jawanza Poland scored 22 points for South Florida (0-1) and was the only
player in double figures.
UCF led 40-24 at the half after shooting 45.2 percent from the floor over the
first 20 minutes. South Florida connected on only 31 percent of its shot
attempts and suffered from a 10-4 deficit from the free throw line.
The Bulls improved to 42.3 percent from the floor in the second half but UCF
fended South Florida off by heating up to 57.1 percent shooting.
Led by Poland, South Florida outscored UCF 25-2 on points off the bench. UCF
dominated on the boards with a 45-26 edge in rebounds.
