Anchorage, AK (Sports Network) - DeMario Mayfield scored 17 points off the
bench to lead the Charlotte 49ers to a 72-58 victory over the Oral Roberts
Golden Eagles in the semifinal round of the Great Alaska Shootout at Sullivan
Arena.
Chris Braswell contributed 11 points and six assists for Charlotte (5-0),
which will face Northeastern in the championship game. Pierria Henry
contributed seven assists and five steals to help keep the 49ers' perfect
record intact.
Shawn Glover paced Oral Roberts (3-2) with 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting from
the floor. Warren Niles added 15 points, Steven Roundtree scored 12, and Damen
Bell-Holter pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. The Golden Eagles will next
play Belmont in the third place game.
Oral Roberts could not get into a rhythm out of the gate and shot just 25.8
percent from the floor in the opening half. The 49ers took a 32-23 lead into
the intermission despite converting only 10-of-27 from the field before the
break.
Charlotte heated up to knocked down 46.4 percent of its field goal attempts
and 10-of-12 at the free throw line in the second half. The Golden Eagles
improved to make 13-of-31 attempts from the floor over the final 20 minutes,
but it was not enough to close the gap and they suffered the double-digit
setback.
Despite the loss, Oral Roberts held a narrow 40-38 edge in the rebounding
battle.
