Kingston, RI (Sports Network) - Sherrod Wright scored 14 points to help boost
the George Mason Patriots to a 55-52 win over the Rhode Island Rams at the
Ryan Center.
Wright was 5-of-11 from the field, with seven rebounds for the Patriots (5-2).
Vaughn Gray added 10 points off the bench, while Erik Copes scored eight
points and cleared a game-high 11 boards.
Xavier Munford led all scorers with 24 points for the Rams (1-6) while
shooting 8-of-16 from the field. Mike Powell added 12 points and Ryan Brooks
gathered a team-high 10 rebounds.
George Mason led 35-22 going into the break after the squad held Rhode Island
to 33.3 percent shooting from the floor in the first half.
In the second half the Rams fought back and were able to tie the game midway
through the frame. George Mason regained the lead and held on for the
victory despite being outscored 30-20 in the half.
Rhode Island shot just 33.3 percent from the field throughout the game and
were outrebounded by the Patriots, 50-31.
