Carbondale, IL (Sports Network) - Desmar Jackson hit a three-pointer with 13
seconds left on the clock to give the Southern Illinois Salukis a 57-54
victory over the Fresno State Bulldogs at SUI Arena.
Jackson led all scorers with 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field and
3-of-4 from beyond the arc for the Salukis (4-1). Jackson also grabbed eight
rebounds which was second highest on the team behind Jeff Early who pulled
down 10 boards to go with his 14 points to complete a double-double.
Allen Huddleston led the Bulldogs (3-3) in scoring with 12 points. Marvelle
Harris added 11 points off the bench while Kevin Foster had a team-high 10
rebounds.
Southern Illinois led 26-21 after the first half of play, holding Fresno
State to 31.8 percent shooting from the floor.
The Bulldogs outscored the Salukis 33-31 in the second half but the 52.0
percent field goal efficiency for SIU was enough for the team to
hold on for the victory.
FSU finished the contest shooting only 3-of-10 beyond the arc and 15-of-24 at
the free-throw line.
