Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Michael Alvarado scored a season-high 19 points
off the bench to propel the Manhattan Jaspers to a 64-57 win over the Fordham
Rams at Rose Hill Gym.
Donovan Kates also finished with a season-high for Manhattan (2-3), scoring 15
points on 4-of-6 from the floor. George Beamon added 10 points and seven
boards.
Ryan Canty came off the bench and scored a career-high 18 points on 8-of-10
shooting from the field for Fordham (1-5). Branden Frazier netted 16 points
thanks to a 9-of-10 performance at the free throw line, while Jeffrey Short
missed 14 of his 16 attempts from the field.
Manhattan led 26-23 at the break despite turning the ball over 15 times.
Alvarado was guilty of three of those turnovers, but made up for his miscues
with seven first half points. Fordham converted just 2-of-15 attempts from
behind the arc in the opening 20 minutes of play.
Manhattan led by six early in the second half before Fordham battled back to
take a lead, which they held for the majority of the half.The Jaspers regained
the advantage with a Rhamel Brown layup with about four minutes remaining.
Brown added a three-point play later, which along with some foul shots helped
seal the deal for Manhattan.
Manhattan extended its lead in the all-time series to 55-50 with the victory.
