Atlanta, Ga. -- Despite four players in double-digits, the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers fell 68-62 to St. Augustine's University in game two of the their women's basketball classic Friday at Epps Gymnasium.
The Lady Falcons took a six-point lead into halftime led by Regime Mccombs with nine points in the period from behind the arc. With an evenly played game in the second half, the Lady Panthers pulled within three points of St. Aug's lead, but could not take advantage of their momentum to move past the Lady Falcons. CAU's Erika Sumpter recorded her first double-double on the season with 19 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks. Three other Lady Panthers finished with double-digit scoring including freshman Nekia Sockwell (13) off the bench and Shavon Caldwell and Conisha Hicks who added 10 each.
St. Aug edged Clark Atlanta on the boards 55 to 51 while La'Quisha Lewis (CAU) and Temperance Jacobs (St. Aug) crashed the boards for a game-high 12 rebounds each for their respective teams.
In game one action, it was the Miles College Lady Bears over Concordia College 56-45. Candance Beberly put up 11 points for miles while Teresa Hill led the Lady Hornets with a game-high 12 points. On the boards, Courtney English grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds and finished with nine points.
Saturday's match-ups will tip-off with Miles against St. Augustine's at 2 p.m., followed by CAU and Concordia at 4 p.m.
