New York, NY (Sports Network) - Stanford and Connecticut remained the top two
teams in women's college basketball, according to the latest Associated Press
poll.
The Cardinal received 22 first-place votes and a total of 978 points from a
nationwide media panel to maintain the top spot for a fifth straight week,
while the Huskies picked up 16 No. 1 votes and 967 points to keep the second
spot.
Baylor garnered a pair of first-place votes to remain third and is again
followed by Duke, Notre Dame, Georgia and Kentucky. The first change came at
No. 8, where California moved up two spots from 10th. Maryland and Tennessee
complete this week's top 10. The Lady Vols vaulted three spots from 13th.
The second 10 consists of Penn State, UCLA, Purdue, Louisville, Oklahoma
State, Dayton, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. Louisville tumbled
six spots from eighth after a loss to Colorado last week.
South Carolina, Texas A&M, Florida State, West Virginia and Colorado are the
last five teams ranked this week. Florida State and Colorado are this week's
newcomers, replacing Ohio State and Miami.
This week's schedule includes a pair of top-10 matchups featuring Tennessee.
The Lady Vols will visit Baylor on Tuesday and will host Stanford on Saturday.
