Evanston, IL (Sports Network) - Dave Sobolewski led four teammates in double
figures with 18 points as the Northwestern Wildcats used a late surge to
defeat the visiting Texas State Bobcats, 74-68, at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Sobolewski shot 5-of-11 from the floor, including 3-of-7 from three-point
range, to go along four assists for Northwestern (8-3). Reggie Hearn
contributed 15 points, while Tre Demps and Jared Swopshire added 12 and 10
points, respectively.
Texas State (4-7) was paced by Joel Wright and Wesley Davis, who both tallied
19 points. Matt Staff recorded 10 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in
the setback.
Despite Texas State playing from behind for most of the first half, a Phil
Hawkins layup with 13 seconds left in the frame gave the Bobcats a 39-37
advantage heading into intermission.
The Bobcats held a 68-62 lead with 3:31 left, but they would not score another
point the rest of the way. Northwestern ended on a 12-0 run to capture the
victory.
Northwestern shot 42.9 percent from long-range, going 12-of-28. Texas State
was plagued by 18 turnovers, which turned into 18 points for the Wildcats.
