Vermillion, SD (Sports Network) - Juevol Myles scored a career-high 32 points
to lead the South Dakota State Coyotes to an 85-75 victory over the Morehead
State Eagles, in a non-conference bout at the DakotaDome.
For the Coyotes (5-7), Karim Rowson added 17 points, Brandon Bos finished with
12 points, and Steve Tecker chipped in 11 points.
Maurice Lewis-Briggs posted a double-double for the Eagles (5-6) with 24
points and 13 rebounds. Chad Posthumus finished with 13 points, Angelo
Warner netted 11 points, and Devon Atkinson dished out 11 assists.
South Dakota shot 44.4 percent from the field in the first half and held a
22-5 scoring advantage from the free-throw line, as it took a 40-31 lead
into the break. Morehead State shot just 36.4 percent from the field in the
opening 20 minutes.
After halftime, the Coyotes made 43.5 percent of their attempts from the field
and again dominated from the free-throw line, outscoring the Eagles 21-3. The
Eagles hardly improved from the field, making only 39 percent of their field
goal attempts, though they did manage to connect on 9-of-19 from beyond the
three-point arc in the second half. Though they saw their lead shrink to just
three several times early in the second half, the Coyotes were able to play
from ahead for the final 20 minutes and snap a three-game losing skid.
South Dakota made a program-record 43 free-throws in the contest. The Eagles'
bench outscored the Coyote reserves, 42-15.
