Logan, UT (Sports Network) - J.T. Adenrele registered a double-double with 18
points and 11 rebounds as he helped lead the UC Davis Aggies to a 78-70 win
over the Southern Illinois Salukis as part of the World Vision Basketball
Challenge at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Although he shot just 4-of-14 from the floor and missed all five of his
attempts beyond the arc, Corey Hawkins finished with a team-best 20 points to
go along with six rebounds and six assists for the Aggies (3-6) as they won
their second straight outing. Ryan Sypkens accounted for 15 points and Ryan
Howley a game-high 15 rebounds off the bench for UC Davis.
The Salukis (6-3), who had a two-game win streak snapped, were paced by
Dantiel Daniels who tallied a game-high 23 points and pulled down a team-best
six rebounds. Also scoring in double figures were Desmar Jackson and Jeff
Early with 18 and 11 points, respectively.
SIU shot a mere 38.9 percent from the floor in the first half, including 3-
of-11 from behind the 3-point line, and still the team held a 31-29 advantage
at the break.
The second half belonged to the Aggies as they connected on not just 52.0
percent from the field but also an impressive 19-of-20 at the free-throw line
to seal the eight-point win.
In a game that featured five ties and 13 lead changes, the Aggies overcame 16
turnovers by producing a 44-30 edge in rebounding.
This event continues for both teams on Friday as the Aggies take on host Utah
State and SIU battles Nicholls State.
