New York, NY (Sports Network) - Duke held onto the top spot in the latest
men's Associated Press college basketball poll, while Syracuse fell from third
to ninth after its first loss.
The Blue Devils are a near-unanimous selection, receiving 63 first-place votes
and a total of 1,623 points from a nationwide media panel.
Michigan, which picked up the remaining two first-place votes, remained in the
second slot. Arizona, Louisville and Indiana all moved up one place to third
through fifth.
Kansas jumped three places to sixth after winning at Ohio State on Saturday.
Missouri, which took down Illinois on Saturday, moved from 12th to seventh and
Cincinnati vaulted from 11th to eighth. Syracuse, which lost to Temple on
Saturday, and Ohio State complete the top 10.
The second 10 consists of Minnesota, Illinois, Gonzaga, Florida, Georgetown,
Creighton, San Diego State, Butler, Michigan State and UNLV. The Gators fell
from eighth to 14th after falling to Kansas State on Saturday.
Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh and Kansas State
are the last five teams ranked this week.
Pittsburgh and Kansas State are the newcomers. They replace New Mexico and
North Carolina, which dropped out from 16th and 23rd.
This week's schedule features one ranked matchup on Tuesday, as San Diego
State takes on Arizona in the Diamond Head Classic championship game.
