Towson, MD (Sports Network) - Jerrelle Benimon recorded a double-double with
26 points and 12 rebounds as the Towson Tigers defeated the William & Mary
Tribe in double overtime, 99-86, in Colonial Athletic Association play at
Towson Center Arena.
Benimon added seven blocks in the Tigers' (8-8, 3-0 CAA) victory. Marcus Damas
and Jerome Hairston scored 19 and 13 points, respectively. Mike Burwell and
Rafriel Guthrie scored 18 and 15 off the bench as Towson won its fourth
straight.
For the Tribe (7-7, 1-2), Marcus Thornton scored 24 points and Brandon Britt
had 17 points. Kyle Gaillard tallied 14 points and nine rebounds, while Matt
Rum and Tim Rusthoven chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively. William &
Mary has now lost four games in a row.
The first half ended with both teams even at 28-28. Towson shot 11-of-25 from
the floor, while the Tribe were 10-of-29.
William & Mary led by as many as 13 with under eight minutes to play in the
game, but Towson came storming back, and a Kris Walden steal and layup with 18
seconds left tied the game at 68-68 and forced overtime.
After a pair of Hairston free throws gave Towson a 78-75 advantage with just
nine seconds left in the first extra session, Thornton drained a 3-pointer on
the other end to force another overtime.
Towson opened up on an 11-1 run in the second overtime, effectively sealing
its fate.
Towson made 27-of-33 from the foul line and forced 22 William & Mary
turnovers.
