Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Anthony Ireland had a game-high 29 points
and eight assists as the Loyola Marymount Lions topped the Santa Clara
Broncos, 84-80, in a West Coast Conference battle at Gersten Pavilion.
Ashley Hamilton added 17 points and Ayodeji Egbeyemi tacked on 13 more for
Loyola Marymount (8-8. 1-2 WCC) which rebounded from back-to-back losses.
Evan Roquemore scored 21 points to pace Santa Clara (12-5, 1-2) while Brandon
Clark added 17 points, Raymond Cowels had a double-double of 15 points and 11
rebounds and Kevin Foster finished with 11 points and seven assists. The
Broncos have lost three of their last four.
Santa Clara ran out to a 44-35 lead at the half by shooting 46.9 percent
including makes on 9-of-16 shots from 3-point range. Meanwhile Loyola
Marymount hit on 45.5 percent of its first half field goal attempts but just
3-of-8 from beyond the arc.
The Lions rallied in the second half by shooting 46.2 percent from the field
while knocking down 6-of-8 shots from long distance. The Broncos struggled
to find their shot, making just 33.3 percent of their second half field goal
attempts.
Loyola Marymount had a 23-13 edge in points off turnovers. Santa Clara had a
43-23 edge in rebounds, 20 of which were offensive that led to 25 second
chance points.
