Lawrenceville, NY (Sports Network) - Daniel Smith and Jonathon Thompson each
scored 23 points as the Rider Broncs took down the Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds,
64-57, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tilt at Alumni Gymnasium.
Smith and Thompson combined to shoot 16-of-22 from the floor and Stewart added
a team-high eight rebounds for Rider (9-9, 4-2 MAAC), which has won three in a
row after losing its previous five. Anthony Myles added 10 points for the
For Loyola (12-6, 4-2 MAAC), Robert Olson scored a career-high 25 points,
while Dylon Cormier chipped in 11 points.
Neither team shot greater than 37 percent in the first half, but Loyola was
able to get out to a 31-27 halftime advantage by draining a pair of 3-pointers
and shooting 7-of-11 from the foul line. Rider went without a long-range
bucket in the opening 20 minutes.
The Broncs opened up the second half red hot, ripping off a 24-9 run to take a
51-40 lead with just over seven minutes to play. The Greyhounds clawed back to
make their deficit just two, 54-52, with 1:36 left, but Rider answered with
six straight points to pull away.
Neither team was efficient from 3-point range, with Rider shooting 2-of-12
from beyond the arc and Loyola going 3-of-19.
