Statesboro, GA (Sports Network) - C.J. Reed finished with 14 points to lead
the Georgia Southern Eagles over the College of Charleston Cougars, 51-47, in
Southern Conference play at Hanner Fieldhouse.
Cleon Roberts added 12 points and Eric Ferguson chipped in 11 for the Eagles
(8-10, 2-3 SoCon).
For the Cougars (12-6, 4-2), Andrew Lawrence finished with 15 points, Anthony
Thomas scored 10 and Willis Hall pulled down 11 rebounds.
Both teams had trouble finding the basket to start the contest. Charleston
was the better of the two though, making 32 percent from the field but just 2-
of-8 from 3-point range, yet it was able to take a 20-13 lead into halftime.
GSU shot a woeful 25 percent from the field and missed all five shots from
beyond the arc in the half.
GSU greatly improved in the second half, connecting on 41.4 percent from the
field, but still had trouble from long-range, making only 2-of-10 from 3-point
distance. Charleston continued to struggle from the field, making only 35.7
percent from the field and shot an identical 2-of-10 from beyond the arc.
A back-and-forth pace in the second half, the Cougars led by four, 44-40, with
under two minutes to play. The Eagles then scored nine straight points in a
span of 42 seconds to steal the game and hand the Cougars their first road
loss this season.
GSU outscored Charleston 13-7 at the free-throw line, including hitting 12-
of-13 in the second half.
