Greeley, CO (Sports Network) - Tate Unruh scored 19 points to lead the
Northern Colorado Bears to a 67-50 victory over the Portland State Vikings in
a Big Sky Conference bout at Butler-Hancock Pavilion.
Unruh shot 7-of-11 from the field, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range for
Northern Colorado (4-11, 2-5 Big Sky), which snapped a five-game losing streak
with the triumph. Paul Garcia was also hot from beyond the arc, making 4-of-7
from long range for 12 points.
For Portland State (5-9, 3-4), Aaron Moore led the way with just nine points
on 4-of-12 from the field. The Vikings, who had won their previous two games,
made less than 34 percent of their field goal attempts in the setback.
Northern Colorado opened up a commanding 47-22 advantage at intermission by
making just shy of 60 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes. The
Bears shot 7-of-10 from 3-point range, while the Vikings drained only eight
field goals total in the half at a 25.8 percent clip.
The tables were turned after halftime, with Portland State making 44 percent
from the field and Northern Colorado shooting just 28.6 percent, but the
Vikings never got within single-digits of the lead.
Northern Colorado committed just nine turnovers, while Portland State also
took good care of the basketball with 12 giveaways.
